There are two main reasons for developing tourism. The first and most obvious reason is to bring economic benefits to the host country. People who can afford to travel usually come from relatively rich countries. They bring with them many hard currencies that the host country needs. The second reason is that tourism promotes understanding between countries and friendship between people in different countries. It is obvious that tourism can bring good results. But does tourism bring benefits to everyone? I have doubts about this. First, let’s look at the theory of economic benefits. Who are the people actually benefiting from tourism? I am very sure not everyone of the host country. In fact, it often means a worse economic situation for many ordinary people, because food prices are too high for the poor with a large number of tourists crowding into the country. On the other hand, does tourism really promote international understanding? Many tourists cannot even speak the language of the countries they visit. Their money will only make the local people more aware of their poverty. My conclusion is that the development of tourism is harmful and should be stopped rather than encouraged.
