【正确答案】 C
【答案解析】[听力原文]
Technology: Cell Phone

Professor: Today we are going to look at what appeared to be a simple clash of technology and health, but there is something even more insidious about the promotion of the use of cell phones for kids, and for adults, as a matter of fact.
Before we touch on the physical effects of cell phones, let"s take a look at the massive advertising campaign that is underway to get a cell phone into the hands of every kid worldwide.
According to a recently published report, it appears that those behind the massive propaganda machine of the tobacco industry are now in the employ of cell phone companies to help them realize the greatest economic benefit from their product.
In the report, presented on a popular anti-cell phone website, author William Thomas exposes the psychological tactic taken by these companies. Thomas reveals that these former tobacco advertising executives are pushing the safety angle but in a different way. Instead of having parents worry about the massive amount of electricity being radiated into their children"s brains from the hand held devices, they are being pushed to focus on the safety benefits of having the phone. Can one really blame a parent for only seeing an immediate connection to their most loved in any situation? A parent can be called in times of distress or just to assuage the guilt of not actually being physically present with their child.
Of course these are incredibly beneficial effects of the cell phone and it pushes the parents to overlook basic questions like, "what is this cell phone doing to the make-up of my child"s brain?" According to the same report from Thomas, researchers in England have found that cell phone use at an early age can be very detrimental to a child"s ability to stay focused in class and take in new information. Another worrying thing in regard to cell phones, is the lack of oversight by federal bodies. According to its own website, the Federal Communications Commission in the United States does not monitor or regulate the emissions and signals from phones to sub-stations because it claims not to have enough resources to do so. Considering the profit made by private cell phone companies last year, I think a small portion of that profit would do just nicely. After all, how many phones would be sold if parents knew their child was at risk and the government was doing nothing to help alleviate that fear.
I know you may be thinking that this is just an academic bad-mouthing, a perfectly legitimate industry, but let"s take a look at some research:
1. A 10-year Swedish study found that heavy cell phone users are prone to develop tumors in the ear and brain.
2. A Dutch study documented impaired ability to think as a result of cell phone use.
3. A German study mapped cancer dusters around cell phone relay towers.
4. An EU study showed evidence of cell damage resulting from exposure to electromagnetic fields typical of those of cell phones.
These organizations have no political motivation and are not related except through their findings. It"s interesting to note that the phone companies rely on science for the product they pedal, but not for the consequences resulting from the use of that product, a bit hypocritical if you ask me.

[解析] 教授在讲座的开始对讲座内容进行了概括:Today we are going to look at what appeared to be a simple clash of technology and health, but there is something even more insidious about the promotion of the use of cell phones...Before we touch on the physical effects of cell phones let"s take a look at the massive advertising campaign...通过以上内容中的某些关键词句,比如more insidious about the promotion, physical effects of cell phones,我们可以推断出这个讲座主要阐述了手机的危害和某些媒体宣传的危害。C选项正合此意。
