A salient (an outstanding) feature of the prevailing international situation is the obvious rise of the non-traditional security factors, mainly (represented by) terrorism. These new elements (They) constitute a grave threat to peace and security not just in Asia and Europe but in the world at large. Plagued by (Living in the dark shadows of) terrorism, Asia and Europe (Asian and European countries) have a great deal of common understanding on ways to deal with the scourge (share a deep knowledge of countermeasures). We all see terrorism as a threat (danger/menace) and feel the necessity of stopping (cracking down on) all forms of it through closer international cooperation. We all call for the United Nations to take a leading role in the fight (combat) against terrorism (the anti-terrorism campaign) and insist on strict compliance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and widely accepted norms of international law. We all agree that terrorism should be [completely] uprooted through a comprehensive approach featuring political, economic, diplomatic and other means (political, economic and diplomatic means) to address both the symptoms and root causes of the problem. We also believe that linking terrorism with any particular country, ethnic group or religion will be counter-productive; instead, we should recognize and respect the diversity of cultures and civilizations and seek a deeper understanding through inter-civilization dialogues.
