Not only in Los Angeles but all over America states and federal authorities are now pouring out resources for improving the road system. By 1960 the states were spending twice as much on roads as they have done in 1950, and the general expenditure for highways is now nearly ten times as much in dollars as in 1930, although the proportion of cars to people has only doubled in that period and the value of a dollar has not declined to anything like the same extent. By the middle 1960s the total annual expenditure on roads in the United States amounted to $11 billion dollars, or $50 per person. This is about four times as much as in England and twice as much as in most European countries.
Who are now pouring out resources for improving the road system?
