Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of the China Meat Association. It is indeed my honor to be here today as president of the International Meat Association, whose more than 100 member organizations represent the meat industries of over 40 nations.
Simply put, the purpose of International Meat Association is to promote free trade in the meat business, while working to establish sanitary standards that protect world customers.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the world will grow by another 800 million people during this decade and more than 10 percent of this growth will occur here in China.
We in the meat industry are in the unique position of producing a product that, depending on a consumer"s lifestyle, can be both a necessity and a luxury. We have seen, and expect to continue to see, growing world meat consumption during good and bad economic times.
