The future for commercial space endeavors looks bright. Space—the final frontier. Launching rockets into space was once the cash-rich governments. {{U}}It has become increasingly common as demand for communications satellites grows{{/U}}. Today, space is a $200 billion a year industry.
As the year begins the business of space looks bright. Orbital Sciences Corporation launched its Antares rocket on Thursday to deliver the first of eight cargo shipments to the International Space Station. Last year they launched eight times, and they're looking to actually break our record of 10 launches this year. This company is just one of two American firms hired by NASA to deliver supplies to the manned space research. {{U}}The partnerships between government and the private sector are helping to lower costs, meanwhile, expanding our understanding of the world{{/U}}.
The increased frequency of rocket launches is driven in part by rising demand for space-based technologies. And yet, despite of the need for more commercial satellites, the end of NASA's space shuttle program in 2011 has had a negative effect in the space community.
But even as NASA's business shrank, other countries are coming to fill the gap. In December, China became the third country to land a spacecraft on the moon. Earlier this month, India launched its first communications satellite.
{{U}}However, it's a major problem in most countries of getting young people interested in studying engineering, specifically aerospace engineering{{/U}}. As demand for rocket launches grows, so will demand for fresh talent.
Why does the launching of satellite become increasingly common?
