On Waste Generation

With the development of modern technology, the issue of waste generation is becoming increasingly prominent in the environmental arena. It mainly depends on a country"s economic status. The three graphs above are quite informative concerning waste generation, especially in three individual countries. From those graphs we can see that the amount of waste being produced is surprisingly huge and the authorities should take some drastic measures to deal with this issue.
There are three charts: a pie chart, a bar chart and a line chart. The first one is about the total waste generation on earth in 2007. It had reached 2.12 billion tonnes already. From this chart we can see that middle-income countries generate nearly half of the total amount, while high-income and low-income countries account for a quarter of the waste respectively. It is clear that middle-income countries take up a bigger proportion of the gross value of waste generation. Then, let"s look at the bar chart. It shows that the population of middle-income countries is far larger than that of high-income ones. Therefore we can get another conclusion that people in high- income countries are far more responsible for waste generation, with nearly 1.5 kilograms of waste generated per person per day.
Then here is the third graph, the line chart, which is about the condition of waste production in China, the U.S. and India—which are the representatives of middle-income, high-income and low-income countries respectively—for the next 20-30 years. It is shown that China is to have the sharpest increase of the three, possibly reaching 500 million tones of waste by the year 2030, whereas the U.S. annual waste generation is to remain relatively stable fiat at around 200 million, with just a slight rise each year. As for India, the figure is low at the year 2000, but has a growing tendency and is expected to surpass that of the U.S. around 2020.
Eventually, through studying those charts above, it can be inferred that waste production will pose a serious threat to the earth in the years to come, and our country, as one of those middle-income ones, should take combating waste generation as our own responsibility. People should be encouraged to reduce the amount of waste generation, and join hands together to protect the environment.
