According to a renowned ancient Chinese philosopher Xunzi, you will never be unaware of the height of the sky until you climb a high mountain. There are many unknown areas in our life, and learning is like a master key that opens doors for us to see a bigger and better world. If we refuse to learn, we will become frogs in the well, not understanding the dynamics of the outside world. Therefore, we will gradually seal our thoughts and fall behind. When born, a person is like a sheet of blank paper. The difference in talent has little effect on future achievement and the crucial factor is the education one received.

In addition, learning can make up for our shortcomings. One’ s ability is not innate, instead, it is acquired through learning and practice. There is no shortcut to success. Only by continuous learning can we make up for our shortcomings and enrich our knowledge. A man of great character is always a learned man; only an ignorant man will despise learning. In real life, we can use instruments to achieve our purposes, such as using cars to avoid walking and using machines to save manual labor. In the same way, people can make up for their shortcomings and achieve remarkable results by learning. Since we are born imperfect, we should study hard to improve ourselves. Competent people are able to surpass ordinary ones, not because their innate quality is different from the average, but depends on their ability to learn.

In a word, learning makes people know more about the world and correct imperfections. Over the past 50 years, human society has created more knowledge than the past 3, 000 years combined. In the agrarian age, one can live on his knowledge from several years’ learning. But now, an age of knowledge economy, one must keep learning throughout all his life to keep up with the times.
