What makes a leader? Some people think that an effective leader should have characteristics such as self-confidence. Effective leaders have generally proved to themselves over some period of time that they are capable of succeeding in their world. A second, and perhaps more obvious characteristic is that they simply are among the most competent and hardest-working people in their area of expertise (专长). The ability to listen is also listed. Sensitivity and listening are important not only because the members of the organization value them, but also because they protect the leader. Today"s leaders also tend to be highly organized — not just in terms of how they use their time but in how they think as well. An organized mind is far more important than an organized desk. Finally, because the true leader is confident and sensitive he can recognize the success of others and provide the necessary feedback that creates a powerful bond between the leader and follower.
