The Qualities of a Good Language Learner

The growing importance of being a bilingual or trilingual has driven hundreds of thousands of people becoming language learners. But how to be a qualified language learner to master a language remains an obstacle for most of them.

As far as I am concerned, first, a good language learner must be a plan maker. The person must be fully aware of what he needs and how long he wants to take to get there. With the clear plan of learning language, a learner can never get confused in the middle of learning. Second, the strong executive power is also required. Even with an appropriate plan, many people still won’t act like the plan, because of all kinds of excuses they can find. But a good language learner with clear mind would force himself to follow the plan and master the language gradually. Third, independence is demanded. It seems to be weird thinking independence as a quality of language learner. But people, who during their learning, depend too much on the classroom and teacher, forget the meaning of language is to communicate with others. So the independence of a language learner will help him to communicate and use the language.

In short, with a clear plan, a strong executive power and independence of a person, one can surely be a qualified master of the language he or she is learning.
