Social netwoking's dark side should not be ignored

Is social networking such as Facebook,  Twitter,  Wechat and Weibo playing a more positive or negative part in people's lives? This has been quite controversial among people for years. Although the new social media has led to some positive changes in the way people communicate and share information, it's negative outcomes should not be ignored
The interview with 200 middle-school parents reveals that 80 % of them hold that the social networking makes their children spend a lot of time on chatting and gossiping, discussing some trivial and meaningless things, thus making students waste a lot of valuable time which should be spent on study.
According to a BBC News report, social networking appears to have brought people together across the Internet, yet in a larger sense it creates social isolation. As people spend increasing amounts of time on social networks, they experience less face-to-face interaction. A research in America stated that about 20 % divorce cases have connection with Facebook.
Overuse of social networking will also result in negative health consequences. Western Reserve School of Medicine study showed that hyper-networking (more than three hours on social networks per day) and hyper texting (more than 120 text messages per day) correlated with unhealthy behaviors including drinking, smoking and it was also associated with depression, substance abuse, poor sleep patterns and poor academic performance.

【正确答案】[作文参考范文] Social Netwoking's Dark Side Should Not Be Ignored Social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Wechat and Weibo has changed the way people interact and is playing an increasingly important role in people's lives. Some middle school parents hold that it makes students waste a lot of time on chatting, gossiping, resulting in wasting the valuable time that should be devoted to study. The BBC News report states that social networking creates social isolation and makes people ignore the face-to-face communication with each other, even with the family members. It is reported that overuse of social networking will also lead to negative health consequences like unhealthy behaviors and poor academic performance. From my perspective, the advantages of the social networking overweigh its negative impact. Firstly, it has led to positive changes in the way people communicate and share information. As long as people can login onto a social networking site, they can gain access to the latest information about their friends no matter how far away they are, which shortens the distance and bring about care and warmth. Moreover, the social networking quickens the speed of information transmission. In today's world, books are no longer the only source of knowledge, and the existence of the social networking makes it possible for almost everybody to share and transmit the knowledge. Last but not least, through writing blogs, updating status and sending instant messages on the networking, people are encouraged to devote more time to reading and writing, thus enhancing people's ability in these two aspects. To sum up, it is true that the social networking can sometimes results in negative outcomes, it obviously has more merits than demerits. It cultivates more intimacy among people, serves as a convenient platform for information transmission and helps students improve their reading and writing skills.
