Snapping Pictures of Funny Signs
Snapping pictures of funny signs seen while traveling is a favorite pastime for many travelers. A miswritten translation, an unusual warning, or an illustration that just doesn"t seem right, all are perfect for adding to your travel photo portfolio and sharing with friends.
Some of these signs aren"t just funny, but absurd—like one next to the water in Mystic, CT, saying that throwing rocks will cost you 50 cents each. Other signs are just plain confusing. Imagine seeing one building map—as one of our members did in Beijing—with a bunch of points all over the map, each clearly labeled: "You are here." Confusing?

How Are Our Bodies Made?
The human body is like a complicated machine made of many interconnected parts. At the smallest scale, the body is composed of about 100 trillion tiny living cells. There are different kinds of cells, each with its own task to do. For example, nerve cells carry messages of sensations and pain to the brain.
Groups of similar cells are organized together to make tissues, such as skin and muscle. In turn, various types of tissues combine to form organs. Among the body"s major organs are heart, brain, stomach, and kidneys. Finally, groups of organs and other body parts work together as organ systems.

Animal Chatter
Among the most unusual and varied sounds on earth are those made by animals.
Whales and dolphins produce an especially complex variety of sounds. So much so that scientists have suggested they may have an advanced language of their own. What is certain is that these creatures can call to one another with sounds that are both below and above the range of human hearing. Dolphins seem to have another use for the ultrasonic "clicks" they are capable of producing. With a powerful, narrow beam of ultrasound they can stun a fish and then grab it in their jaws before it has a chance to recover.

Where Did Our Calendar Come from?
When men and women began to settle and depend heavily on farming, they needed to form a calendar. This was especially important in ancient Egypt where life revolved around the annual flooding of the river Nile.
Egyptians noticed that the Nile floods came at about the same time each year. They always started around the day when the bright star Sirius appeared on the horizon just before sunrise. As a result, this day was taken to mark the start of the Egyptian year. The year was then split up into 12 months of 30 days. Five extra days were added at the end to make 365 in all.
