National Curriculum was introduced into England, Wales and Northern Ireland as a nationwide curriculum for primary, and secondary state schools according to the Education Reform Act 1988. It aims to standardize the contents taught by all teachers so as to get assessment statistics for every school, which in turn enabled the compilation of league tables.
