Night slowly reached the tableland. People went home and birds returned to their nests. The broad tableland enveloped by the night was so quiet that it seemed any sound made there could reach the sky directly, shaking out the stars‟ dancing lights.
​​​​​​The night was quiet but alive. The lively dogs, dutifully defending their masters, ran along the courtyard wall noiselessly, stopping now and then, pricking up their ears carefully listening for any sound, near or far. Resourceful rats did not miss any chance to drag to their house the food careless people left around, trying their best to avoid making any noise. The hiding cats were active too, their eyes and ears alert, waiting for the chance to catch the night thieves.
