    With both the girls' and boys' soccer teams     1    nationally recognized last year, the Gibson High Sports Boosters decided it was time to renovate the school pitch. The Boosters, a group consisting mostly of parents of student athletes, raised $200,000 last year. This amount covered the cost of improvements such as laying high-tech artificial grass, building suitable stadium seating, and replacing floodlights.
    Early last month landscapers uprooted the field's existing grass and removed over three     2    of dirt. They then laid an extensive network of pipes and filled the gaps with layers of absorbent rock and soil. The pipes connect to a special padding under the grass, and this padding absorbs water which then drains out through an extensive series of underground pipes. This all means that athletes won't slip and fall     3    it's pouring rain. "It was money well spent, that's for sure," the principal says.
