Her friend said, “don’t get the fruit,it makes you fat.” “Fruit makes you fat ?“she asked.“It has tons of calories " replied the friend. The lady ordered fries with her meal.
Can fruit make you fat? My favorite quote about fruit comes from Steven Kates, personal trainer and founder of one of my favorite weight loss products “ Lifesize Portions ”. In the instructional video for Lifesize he talks to a client who is astounded that she can eat an unlimited number of bananas on the Lifesize Portions program. No one gets fat from eating bananas,“ he says.
He’s right. Of course,the woman in the first conversation is right too. Some fruits are higher in calories. And for dieters with diabetes, the sugar in fruit may limit the amount they should eat.But for the average person who wants to eat a healthy diet, fruit is a good thing! You can overeat any food, but really,when’s the last time you heard of someone overeating kiwi?
If you’ve concerned about the calorie count in your fruit, here are a few numbers. Tm not a fan of juicing for weight loss, so my preference is always to eat the whole fruit instead of its juiced counterpart. Whole fruit provides more fiber, usually takes longer to eat and is more likely to make you feel satisfied for a longer period of time. For the sake of comparison, I’ve included the calorie counts for a few other snack foods you might be tempted to eat instead of the fruit.
