Good morning class. I want to begin today''s class with a question. Why do people from hot countries wear white or light colored clothes all the time and people who live in cold countries wear dark colors so much? The answer isn''t cultural — it''s scientific. Today''s lab experiment should help you answer the question. Let''s begin, shall we?
First take two metal cans the same size. Make sure the cans are clean. Second, glue a piece of black paper around one can and a piece of white paper around the other can. Third, cut 2 pieces of cardboard to use as lids for the cans. Then, get a thermometer and cut holes in each cardboard lid just big enough for the thermometer to fit into. After that, fill each can 1/2 full of water from the sink. Make sure the level of water is equal in both cans. Next, make sure the temperature of the water in each can is the same.
To continue, put the lids on the cans and set them in the window in front of the sun. Check the temperature of each can every 5 minutes and write it down. Stop after 30 minutes.
Finally, compare your results. Use these results to give me a written paragraph that tries to answer my first question about the color of clothing and temperature.
