Please translate the following,passage into English.(中南大学2010研,考试科目:英语翻译基础) 我们参观博物馆时,常会看到各种古代铜镜——古代人用来整容的家庭日用品。

When visiting museums, we can usually see various kinds of ancient bronze mirrors, which were used as a household necessity for dressing by the ancient Chinese people. Most of these bronze mirrors were unearthed from ancient tombs, and some of them are heirlooms. Dating back to the 11th century, bronze mirrors had already been put into use by our ancestors. The Warring States Period had witnessed the prevalence of bronze mirrors among the populace. After being polished, the front side of the mirror glistens, while one-layered or double-layered patterns are decorated on its back. The most common patterns include those of beast faces, flowers and leaves, as well as dragons and phoenix. In West Han Dynasty, the bronze mirrors were heavier in weight and mostly carved with geometric patterns, immortal gods, and fowls and animals , accompanied by the inscriptions of three or four Chinese characters with such meanings as " Eternal Lovesick-ness" , "Never to Forget" , "Be Rich Forever" and "Ever-lasting Happiness" etc. , most of which are auspicious words. Later, in Song and Yuan Dynasties, the bronze mirrors took some new shapes, such as round, rectangular, rhomboidal, octagonal, and those with a handle. Since Qing Dynasty, bronze mirrors have gradually given way to glass ones.
