Jim Thompson's House provides an interesting insight into a foreigner's love of Thailand and its people and arts. The house, actually three teak houses joined together, is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs B100 (which includes a tour in English or French).
What to do
Bangkok was once known as 'the Venice of the East' because of its many miles of canals (klongs) throughout the city centre. Visitors should experience at least one river trip during their stay, and a simple ferry crossing is an easy and inexpensive way of seeing something of river life. Shopping
Bangkok is famous for its range of shops and the fantastic bargains which are available. Be sure to visit the Weekend Market near the northern bus terminal. There is a fantastic range of exotic items on sale here, but watch out for pickpockets! There are also excellent shopping malls and department stores.
