【答案解析】原文:W: Welcome back. Joining us now is Rick Johnson, founder and director of StandUp For Kids. Thank you for joining us.M: Thanks, Lisa. Thank you for having me.W: So, Rick, could you tell us what is StandUp For Kids?M: Well, it is an American nationwide non-profit organization, all volunteers, in 37 cities, that goes to the streets and helps homeless and street children.W: And how do you help them? What do you do for them?M: Well, we carry backpacks full of food and clothes and hygiene products. But we also have all the data. In every city, we do a lot of surveys to find out what resources are available to kids. And we tell them: Here’s where the shelters are, the centers are, the clinics are. We help them get ID cards and birth certificates, teach them how to drive, how to shop, how to cook, how to furnish apartments. I mean all the skills for survival. Everything.W: Yeah.M: I think all too often people look at homelessness as being homeless. But for children, no family, no community, no school, no neighbors. It’s not just homeless. It’s lifeless. You have to help them put this back together first.W: Am I risking to ask if you were ever one of those on the street?M: Yes, I was. For almost three years.W: Now, again, can I be so bold as to ask why you were there?M: Well, I was kicked out of the house at the age of 14.W: 14?M: Yeah. My mother was a single parent. We didn’t necessarily get along completely. And she felt that she had done all she could. And that was the last resort, apparently. And so she turned me away and I ended up hitchhiking from Texas to California.W: California? How were you prompted to start StandUp For Kids then, Rick?M: That’s a great question. Later I joined the navy and had spent 30 years there. I knew when I retired, I was going to volunteer. I didn’t know I was going to start a program for homeless and street kids. I remember after I left the navy, I worked in a company for a few years. And once I was going to San Diego on business. Before I went there, I saw an article in a news magazine about this woman who helped homeless kids in San Diego. And I said, well, when I get there, I want to help her. And when I got there, I tracked her down and I started volunteering. And then I thought kids need much more than this. And I left and I started StandUp For Kids. That’s it.W: That’s really an incredible story. Thank you very much Rick, for sharing with us your experience as such a great volunteer.M: My pleasure.6. What is the interview mainly about?7. What does the man do to help street children?8. According to the man, what is homelessness for children?9. Why did the man become a street child himself?10. When did the man decide to establish StandUp For Kids?
