【正确答案】
【答案解析】
On the Universal Language
With the deepening of globalization, the issue of universal language has attracted considerable attention. People"s viewpoints vary a lot. In my opinion, it is necessary to have a worldwide standard language. While there"s no denying that a common language should never replace our mother tongue.
A universal language can be an effective means for all human beings to participate in this rapid developing world. Though universal language may not be narrowed down to Esperanto or English only, the wide use of English nowadays proves that a common language is helpful to economic growth and cultural exchange as well. English has been gaining momentum since the beginning of 21st century and it contributes to the prosperity of many nations. Language is so important that even the United Nations specifies English, Chinese, French, Russian, Arabian and Spanish as its official languages. And English is without doubt the most important one among all other languages in the world. It"s hard to imagine what would come about if the leaders don"t speak a common language at all. According to the Bible, God has created a place named Babel, where people hold different languages so that no disagreement or agreement will be reached. That, of course, is not what modem people would like to see. Without common language, millions of activities like diplomacy and foreign trade would be absolutely pipe dream.
However, the importance of universal language can"t be over emphasized for it would be a long process for people from such a diversified world to accept one common language apart from their mother tongue. But it"s still possible because the indispensable role of English has made it a trend for us to master it so are we able to embrace a more colorful world. What really matters is that we may acquire more than one language like most Europeans do, but a universal language will certainly facilitate the integration of regional development.
