Mr. Clark: Come in, Mr.
Johnson. Won' t you sit down? I' m Tom Clark, personnel manager of the
organization.
Mrs. Johnson: How do you do, Mr. Clark? I'm very glad to
meet you.
Mr. Clark: We've been hearing some very fine things
about you, Mr. Johnson. You've been doing some fine work in Wisconsin. I've read
your records, and you certainly have had excellent experience. If you don' t
mind, I'd like to know a little about why you want to change your
position.
Mrs. Johnson: Well, there are several reasons. The main one
is that there is no chance for advancement where I am. The company I' m working
for is quite small, as you know. In the last couple of years the work has become
rather dull. I feel that your larger company can offer me more of a challenge in
research. I've read about a lot of exciting new plans you're making.
Mr.
Clark: It's true that we're expanding, and we need some new people
with new ideas. What are your other reasons?
Mrs. Johnson: Your
location here, for one. I've been wanting to move to California for a number of
years. I' m getting tired of cold weather in the winter. I've been hoping to
find a position somewhere out here.
Mr. Clark: It's true.
California does have a pleasant climate. Lots of people are coming here to enjoy
it.
Mrs. Johnson: Also, there's a matter of money. This position will
give me a raise in salary.
My children will be getting old enough to go to
college soon, and a college education is very expensive these days.
Mr.
Clark: Let's see, you have two children, don' t you ? A girl and a
boy ?
Mrs. Johnson: My son will graduate from high school in two years. He
studies engineering.
My daughter is younger.
Mr. Clark: Very
good. Well, if you' 11 just follow me, Mr Johnson, I will introduce you to the
president of the company. He'd like to meet you.
