Cohesion refers to the relations of meaning that exist within the text, and that defines it as a text. The cohesive devices usually include: conjunction, ellipsis,lexical collocation, reference, and so on. In the following example, the cohesive device is “Reference”, it refers back to the door: He couldn't open the door. It was locked tight.
