Will Computers Replace Teachers?
There is no consensus among people as to the issue of whether teachers will be replaced by computers. With the popularization of computer-assisted teaching resources, it is believed by some that the doomsday of teachers is close at hand and the new era of computer-assisted teaching is coming. Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, teachers will always keep playing an active and significant role in the classroom.
On the one hand, without teachers, who would be responsible to prepare so many teaching materials in the computer? Who writes the step-by-step processes on the computer that students are to follow? Who clarifies@ the objectives and goals of the computer-assisted course? Definitely it is the teacher. Without teachers, this new form of teaching won"t exist.
On the other hand, what a teacher is able to bring to the classroom is totally different from what a computer is capable of bringing to the students. A teacher is flexible and has the ability to make appropriate adjustments when necessary. For example, choosing more complicated words if the students generally have a good command of English, spending more time in one perplexing grammar point which is hard for the students to grasp, making use of all kinds of techniques to arouse students" interest when they seem to be bored and tired. What has been described above can never to be achieved by computer.
In a nutshell, as the writer of a computer-assisted course and with the ability to be flexible to promote teaching, teachers will always play a role in education.
