(2) Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Warm-up and Lead-in (5 minutes)
Greet with students, have them look at some pictures and have a free talk with the following questions: What are they doing? Which country do you want to learn English?
(Justification: to activate students’ interest in the topic that is to be discussed.)
Step 2: Pre-reading (5minutes)
Show students the pictures, teach them some new words in the text, and try to encourage them to describe the pictures with new words that are exposed to them.
(Justification: to help students better master the new words, which paves the way for the understanding of the passage.)
Step 3: While-reading (20 minutes)
① Skimming
Ask students to skim the passage and find out the general idea of the passage.
(Justification: to improve their ability of obtaining the gist of the text within a limited period of time.)
② Scanning
Ask students to read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
(Justification: to enhance their ability of locating the specific information, which aims to enable them to better understand the passage.)
Step 4: Post-reading (10 minutes)
Ask students to work in pairs and role play a dialogue with the topic of the benefits of learning English abroad. Then invite several groups to perform in class.
(Justification: to boost their speaking skills and foster their awareness of cooperation.)
Step 5: Summary (3 minutes)
Ask students to conclude what they have learnt in class and invite one student to give out his answer.
(Justification: to consolidate the knowledge that is imparted to them.)
Step 6: Homework (2 minutes)
Ask students to write an essay about the benefits of learning English abroad within 120 words.
