My View on Business Ethics

When it comes to what is important to a business, most people would say that the first and foremost concern is its profit earning capacity. However, some people hold a different but more responsible opinion. It contends that the ethics of a business lies in its social value, namely the contributions it has made to society.
Every coin has two sides. In my opinion, an enterprise cannot survive without making profits. Money is needed for the operation of a business. But I don"t appreciate the idea that the mere objective of a business is to make money. We live in a closely connected world where a business cannot be isolated from society like an island. Most of the time, it is hard for us to achieve a goal without seeking help from others. A business won"t get help from others if it is reluctant to provide any. Therefore, a business should not only care for its profit, but also pay attention to the benefit of its employees and the whole world. For example, it should carefully monitor the extent of environmental pollution it has caused, and lower it to the minimum level.
According to the discussions above, it is safe for us to conclude that the ethics of a business lies in the balance between making profits and the social responsibilities it takes.
