Teaching Aims:
Knowledge aim:
By the end of the class, students will know the format of a narration, which includes:times, spots, figure, cause, outcome.
Ability aim:
Students’ writing ability of describing an event happened in the past can be improved by the end of the class.
Emotional aims:
Students will be more imaginative. And their thinking ability about things beyond real life can be trained.
Students will be more interested in learning English while sharing their ideas with others.
Teaching Key &Difficult Points:
Key point: The format of a narration.
Difficult point: Leading students to think about things beyond their real life.
Teaching Procedures:
Step1: Warming up
Use a picture of the Bermuda Triangle to attract students’ attention and create a circumstance for today’s learning.
Step 2: Pre-writing
1.Let the students read the article on the notebook and get the main idea about the passage.
Main idea: The Bermuda Triangle, where a number of planes and ships disappeared mysteriously.
2.Run a brainstorming activity: show some other pictures and events about the Bermuda Triangle. Ask students the questions as follows:
What may happened in the Bermuda Triangle?
Why does the Bermuda Triangle is a special place ?
Guess what did the scientists do and what did they find.
What’s your conjecture?
Then I would ask them to do a discussion about these questions. They can change their ideas with their partners and find out the similarities and differences. Then decide their own idea to write with. After the discussion, pick some students to report their ideas at the front and provide some more information about the Bermuda Triangle. Then let them continue to write the article.
Step 3: While-writing
Give students some guides, such as: pay attention to the spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and tenses.
10 minutes would be given to them to complete their articles individually.
Step4: Post-writing
Self-editing: Ask students to check their articles according to some key words or teacher’s example and then do some editing.
Peer editing: Ask students to check and edit their partners’ article and give them some suggestions.
Share: Invite some students to share their articles at the front and them some comments.
Step5: Summary and Homework
Summary: Sum up what we have learned today and show them some other articles on the screen.
Homework: Write another article about another unsolved mysteries in the world.
