Is living longer a good thing? How long should we live? Some argue that living too long is a loss just as death is. It renders us, if not disabled, then faltering and declining, a state that may be worse than death. We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic. They think that we focus too much on racking up years, and it's time for a new attitude to death. What is your opinion about this issue? Please illustrate your argument and develop it into a short essay of about 400-500 words with a proper title.
On Death
Many people are afraid of death. As a result, more and more people are looking for ways to live longer in recent years, especially when the technology and medical care improve. However, it is an inevitable process that everyone has to end up in death. Death is only the spontaneous ending for life; everything that gets born, dies. Therefore, it is something that is perfectly natural.
It is not natural when people die at a premature age. Many people die in car accidents even when they are very young. When drinking and driving, it is very dangerous for the driver, and sometimes an unfortunate death occurs. We shouldn't be sad when our elders die, especially when they are in their eighties or nineties. They die a natural death; maybe they are in deathbed because of some sickness, but it is still perfectly natural for old people to be ill. We shouldn't mourn too much. On the other hand, if a very young person dies, or if someone close to us dies, we feel very sad, especially when that someone close to us is young. We feel that it is unfair for them to die; their lives shouldn't end like that, they have a bright future ahead of them.
Sometimes we feel fear for death. Fear comes from the unknown, and we are usually filled with countless images of the unknown, most of which can make us feel nervous. For example, we are nervous about the unknown tomorrow, we are afraid to suddenly contact with people we don't know, or deal with things we don't know, or even have a sudden interview. So in terms of “death”, it's something that we haven't been exposed to since we were a kid. We don't really understand what it means to live towards death, and we don't like to think that every second we live is a step closer to death. No one knows what will happen next second. No one knows when they will leave this world. No one knows whether the dinner today to see friends will be the last or not. All of these are unknown. Most of us know the consequences of wasting time and not valuing it. But we don't know what will be after death, even if many religions have made a lot of people were killed after the scene description. For most people, there is no experience to truly believe, so they hold a wait-and-see attitude.
Overall, one should not dwell over death too much, it just happens, sometimes there's no way to prevent it. Just understand it and give your regards to the dead. Cherish the things and people around you. This is all that we can do.
