【答案解析】[解析] 14-16
W: Our listener's question this week comes from Vietnam. H. Nguyen. He wants to know what the expression "pop culture" means. Professor Smith, how do you understand this term?
M: In very general terms, pop culture, or popular culture, includes movies, television shows, sports, music, cooking, clothing styles and other examples of culture that a society currently produces.
W: Could you give us some examples?
M: The movies of Disney, hip-hop music, fast food and jeans are all good examples of American pop culture.
W: Well, Professor Smith, some people think that the popular culture is always changing.
M: It is, and that makes pop culture hard to define. Most people would probably agree that popular culture is influenced by the cultural products that sell well and make money. Some experts distinguish between a popular, or "low" culture, and a "high" culture as defined by the richer and more educated people in society.
W: For example?
M: For example, such experts might say that a song by Britney Spears is an example of pop culture, but music by the great masters like Mozart or Bach is not. Within this group, some say that commercial and market forces destroy culture.
W: Then again, other experts believe that there is no longer a "low" or a "high" culture because the two have mixed together.
