主要讨论汽车无限增多造成城市道路严重拥堵的问题:
(城市道路上汽车拥挤不堪,即使是救护车也寸步难行。)
【正确答案】Candidate A:
Nowadays, with the rapid development of our economy, more and more Chinese people are becoming car owners. In the meantime, the increasing cars also lead to a series of problems. This picture shows the roads are so heavily jammed with cars that even an ambulance finds it difficult to fulfil its duty. Many cities are suffering from the same serious traffic congestions. This raises a grave question whether we should encourage people to have their own cars.
Candidate B:
But cars do bring lots of conveniences to people's life. With cars people can go whatever places they want freely and quickly. Our life is bettered and our work efficiency is greatly improved. It is becoming an indispensable part of our modern life.
Candidate A:
Perhaps there is something in what you said. But the disadvantages of private cars are also obvious and can by no means be ignored. Too many cars on the road easily lead to traffic jams, which actually slow down the pace of life and work. Moreover, more private cars lead to deteriorated environment and contribute to serious energy crisis with their large consumption of petroleum.
Candidate B:
Do you mean we should put a ban on private cars? What is the solution to the current heavy traffic pressure in large cities?
Candidate A:
Putting a ban on private cars would go to another extreme. In my opinion, to resolve this problem, on the one hand, private cars should be put under strict control. On the other, more effective measures should be taken. Widening roads is just one way, but the fact is that any of our effort to widen the roads lags behind the increase of autos. I think the most effective way is to promote the development of public transportation. For example, we may change the traffic signal system to give buses longer green lights at intersections to favour public transportation.
