无University Education Should Be More Open-minded and Free
University education plays a vital role in improving the abilities and skills of students. Some people believe that formal education including the university education should teach students what they should do, but from my point of view, the university education should be more open-minded and free to enable students to develop their potentials.
The most of students who receive university education are adults who have established their own world views. They are able to take responsibility for themselves. They also should have the right to choose to what to learn and how to learn, and therefore, the university education should give them more freedom to enable them to make decisions for themselves. The university education should teach students to be brave to take the personal responsibility and never forget the belief in the principles of liberty and freedom.
The university is a diverse community. Attending universities means meeting new people, making new friends and sharing new experience. It teaches us the skill of meeting and sharing information with people. Students have more opportunities to meet friends with different backgrounds and from different places. Each student should share, inspire and embrace each other in the broad platform. Students are supposed to learn the ability to embrace diversity with open mind. Encouraged by the cultural exchange and collision, students will have more broad prospective and more colorful life.
The open-minded and free atmosphere will be helpful in promoting the abilities of creativity, innovation and critical thinking which are needed in jobs of all fields. In addition to offering the platform for students to learn more deep and specialized knowledge in one field, which is also necessary for the students, the university education should encourage students to explore and study actively. Promoted by the free and open-minded atmosphere, students are more easily to be independent thinkers and creators because they are not limited by some old rules. The purpose of university education is to prepare new generation of citizens in society. This is the final stage before they enter the society for most students and they should take advantage of the university to learn more useful skills and abilities like creativity, innovation and critical thinking which are more important for people to survive freely in the complex and rapid change.
In conclusion, the university education should be more open-minded and free since it is helpful in improving the ability of creativity, thinking and embracing diversity for students.
