My Favorite Type of Teachers

Every student has their own favorite type of teachers. Some like a strict teacher who instructs them step by step conscientiously and may criticize students for their unreasonable mistakes, while others may like a gentle teacher who is always friendly to students and gives them slight warning for their mistakes. Some prefer patient teachers. Some are attracted by teachers who are enthusiastic in giving lectures. For my part, what I like most are teachers who are capable and care about students’ study and life.

First of all, I insist that a teacher should be capable. Of course, firstly, it is of vital importance for a teacher to be knowledgeable. He must master the knowledge of the subject he teaches. A Chinese teacher is expected to speak standard Mandarin, read extensively, and excel in writing; a math teacher is supposed to be sensitive to numbers and have logic thinking; an English teacher must be good at English listening, speaking, reading and writing. A teacher without expertise couldn’t be considered qualified for the job. If a teacher knows less than students in a certain subject, how can students benefit from his teaching? Secondly, a teacher should master the teaching skills to make his lecture intelligible. Otherwise, students may be confused and have difficulty in understanding what is being taught.

Secondly, teachers ought to care about students’study. Teaching is conducted by teachers, but the aim of teaching is to enrich students’ knowledge and enhance their skills. Therefore, teachers have every reason to keep a close eye on students’study. If most of students have difficulty in grasping certain knowledge, teachers should try to elaborate on the knowledge in a more understandable way so that they can understand.

Thirdly, students spend most of the time with classmates and teachers in a school day. Therefore, teachers should pay attention to students’ conditions. If a student suffers from illness, teachers should inform his parents or send him to hospital in case of emergency. Every year, sudden deaths of students occur. Some teachers are to blame because they don’ t know the physical conditions of some students at all. If students report discomfort to teachers, teachers should pay attention.

All in all, I have a liking for teachers who are competent in teaching and cares about students. Teachers should not only make sure their teaching is effective, but also keep a close eye on students’ conditions.
