Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warming-up
1. Greetings. Talk about the weather.
2. Today is our classmate Tom’s birthday, and let students sing a happy birthday song to him.
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to Tom,
Happy birthday to you.
Give students positive evaluation. Then tell them that today our topic is also about “birthday”.
Step 2: Pre-listening
1. Draw a picture on the blackboard, and let students guess what it is, then ask them to read after me. Then write the word “birthday” on the blackboard.
2. Next, the teacher will ask Tom “How old are you?” He may give me the answer “ten” Then I will show some number cards(one to ten), and ask the whole class to read these words. Then write these numbers down on the blackboard.
3. Ask students to predict what the listening material may talk about.
Step 3: While-listening
1. Extensive listening
Ask students to listen to the tape for the first time and answer one questions “How many people are there in this conversation?”
2. Intensive listening
Listen to the tape for the second time and ask students to answer another two questions. “Whose birthday is it? And how old is he?”
Step4: Post-listening
Divided students into several groups. Ask students to do a survey about their group members’ birthday using the sentence “How old are you? I am _ten_years old. Happy birthday to you” . After six minutes later, ask one of them acts as the group leader to collect their group members’ birthdays and fill in the chart on the blackboard.
Step5: Summary and Homework
Summary: Ask a student to conclude the content of the lesson and summarize with the whole class.
Homework: sing the “Happy birthday” song to their parents, and ask their parents age using the sentence we have leaned.
