The Protestant Reformation was a religious reform movement that started in 1517, when the German monk Martin Luther posted for debate a series of these that challenged Roman Catholic teaching. Those who separated themselves from Catholic Church were called Protestants. Most of the Protestants stress the Bible as the source and norm of teaching instead of the Pope as the source of authority.
