To my best knowledge, we can easily recognize the positive effects of online communication as follows. To begin with, the Web has offered us tremendous convenience like high efficiency and flexible place of communication. Moreover, social networking websites like Renren or Facebook, with instant messengers like MSN or QQ, help us get and stay in touch with others with a few clicks. In this sense, we are brought much closer in the virtual world.
For all the advantages mentioned above, online communication is by no means without its limitations, as listed below. In the first place, some people spend too much time online, which may affect their health. In the second, online communication could make people less willing to interact with others face to face. In this sense, online communication has made people farther away in the real world.
To my best understanding, it is advisable that we take a rational attitude towards this issue. On the one hand, online communication may produce certain positive effects. On the other, there can be some problems involved. It is preferable that we make full use of the positive sides and meanwhile minimize the negative effects.
