Involution, which means the vicious competition inside a particular group, has become one of the Ten Popular Words of 2020. Originally it was a term of sociology, and it went viral when a picture which showed a college student used his computer while riding his bike was posted on the Internet. Although some people know that involution will lead to a waste of resources, they are involuntarily involved in it.
In my opinion, there are two reasons that can account for it. First of all, people will succumb to peer pressure. For example, when the teacher asks students to finish an essay of 2,000 words, those who write 5,000 words are praised by the teacher and receive a high score. As a result, the next time the teacher assigns a similar task, more students will write 5,000 words or even more.
Thus, it will cause over competition. What's more, some people don't have a clear goal and just follow the mainstream. It will easily result in involution. There are some measures to avoid involution. I think the most important of all is to set a specific goal and not to be influenced by others. We should shield ourselves from anxiety and achieve our goals step by step according to our own plan.
