Contemporary technology, especially the Internet, including some inventions depending on it, such as smartphone and tablet, makes available many small pieces of factual information. There comes a problem: Will people become so preoccupied with bits of fragmented information that they pay too little attention to the larger issues and overall perspectives. Although I concede that contemporary technology provides a lot of information for humans, some people may get lost in the vast ocean of information. In general, the opportunity to access much information provides humans more perspectives and promotes the improvement of the World.
Contemporary technology provides unprecedented amount of information for humans. As the radio technology was invented, people can hear about the voices thousands of miles away. Since the 1960s, people have had the opportunity to see the progress of an affair through the wide application of TV. The Internet again makes available much more information than ever before. Facing innumerable pieces of information, some people who lack the ability to sort and choose may get lost and focus on some trifle factual ones. For example, when my computer has some problems, I usually get confused and frustrated because I only know the name of the components, but cannot tell which is critical in this problem because learning the function of all the components needs a lot of time, for I am not majoring in computer science.
What’s more, the opportunity to acquire much information promotes the improvement of the World. For example, in the ancient Greece people have to walk months to listen to the speech of great thinker Aristotle or Socrates. Their important and advanced theory can only spread by oral telling. Before the Industry Revolution, knowledge is usually handed over from one generation to another. Today people can easily get the latest development of all fields from the electronic magazines on the Internet. With much more people sharing the information, everyone can make use of their strong points to analyze problems, and therefore the development of the World has been accelerated. Another example is that the diversity of information gives people more perspectives in politics. Therefore, policies of governments will be better-rounded with the consideration for the behalf of people from different levels in society in this way democracy is improved.
In sum, contemporary technology makes available many pieces of factual information, and some people may get preoccupied in them. Thus the statement is correct in this respect. However, it overstates the negative function of the opportunity to acquire innumerable pieces of information. In general, the opportunity to get information provides human more perspectives and accelerates the progress of our World.
