We all live within a society, which means a big part of our lives are spent interacting and working with other people, most notably with colleagues. In order to work effectively and efficiently and make work an enjoyable experience, we must be able to get along well with our co-workers. In a work environment, I think an ideal co-worker should have the following qualities.
Most importantly, a good co-worker should be responsible and dependable. In most workplaces a project is divided into separate tasks shared by a team of employees. Failure in one single task would certainly be detrimental to the entire project. Therefore an ideal coworker should be one who is a capable and trustworthy contributor to the teamwork.
In addition, a good co-worker must be a team player. Teamwork requires that between team members there be constant communication and coordination. And it calls for making compromises when there is disagreement. All the members' fates are united.
Following that, a good co-worker would be one that has a pleasant personality and is easy to get along with. No one wants to spend the greater part of the day with someone they dislike. If we can get along with our colleagues, we will enjoy our jobs more.
To conclude, being a good co-worker in the workplace is in the interest of the company as well as the individual. An ideal co-worker should be someone who is capable and dependable in his/her job, willing to be a team player, and easy to get along with.
