Passage 2

People have different opinions on success. Some people think that success is only for those withtalent or those who grow up in a good family, and others believe that success mostly depends on luck.I'm not going to say luck, talent and circumstances don't have effects because they do. Some peoplewere born into a good family while others were born with great intelligence, and it is just the reality.

However, to succeed in life, one needs to set a goal first and then gradually make it more practical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least

10,000 hours studying and practising. To become great at certain things, it'll require more time, which most people won't put in.

This is an important reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. Ifyou don't enjoy what you do, it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit wellbefore you become good at it.

When you see people exhibit some great skills or have achieved great success, you know that theyhave put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It's sometimes very easy to think they gotlucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there's ahuge chance that you're wrong.

Whatever you do, if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almostto the point of addiction, and over a long period of time. If you're not willing to put in time and work, don't expect to receive any rewards. Persistence and working hard won't guarantee you the level ofsuccess you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever you put all thatwork into.

Paragraph 1 mainly talks about ________.
故选A。
The underlined word"that"in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.
根据第二段前两句“.to succeed in life, one needs to set a goal first and then gradually make it morepractical. And, in addition to that, in order to get really good at something.…”可推知,画线单词that指代上文中的set a goal first and then gradually make it more practical(首先设定一个目标,然后逐渐使它变得更切实可行),与B项(设定一个切实可行的目标)意思最接近。故选B。
Successful people suggest doing what one loves because ________.
This is an important reason why many successful people advise you to dosomething you love.” 同时根据第二段最后两句“.…one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practising. Tobecome great at certain things, it'll require more time, which most people won't put in.”
What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
It'ssometimes very easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent...there's ahuge chance that you're wrong.”可知,有时很容易认为那些展示出一些优秀技能或取得了巨大成功的人走运了,或者他们生来就有某种罕见的天赋,但是那样想对你没有好处,而且你有很大的可能是错的,因此D项错误,并且由此可推知,有时候人们并不是靠运气和天赋取得成功的,所以B项正确;根据第四段第一句“When you see people exhibitsome great skills or have achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part oftheir life to get there at a huge cost.”
What is the main idea of the passage?
再结合最后一段第一句".…if you want to become great atit, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a longperiod of time."
