In fact, science is a decisive factor for any country's development. Without science, the develop- ment of society and progress of human race are impossible.
When asked about science, some people will immediately associate it with many scientific discoveries such as computer, TV, satellite and so on. It is true that science has revolutionized our way of living and changed the lives of millions of people. It has become the new "magic" capable of doing everything. The latest gadgets and devices around you for a better living have come as a result of scientific studies. In modern society, man can hardly live without penicil lin, telephone, TV and computer.
But the true values of science do not merely lie in these things. Rather, they lie in the way in which science contributes to man's physical, intellectual and mental well-being. Sci ence has not only improved people's standard of living, but most importantly, their understand- ing and their opportunities for spiritual and intellectual growth. More than any other subject, science has freed people from ignorance and has multiplied their energies, hopes and ambi tions. Undoubtedly, China needs to popularize science among people in order to promote its development.
