South of Beirut, a 16-year-old Druze warrior, his long hair held away from his face by a red band, puts down his rifle, blows some bubble gum and surveys what is left of the village of Kfarmatta.
What is left is a large expanse of rubble, dotted with tires, 7Up cans, an Adidas running shoe and other relics of ordinary life. Here and there is a home that hasn’ t been completely destroyed, its interior exposed to the dusty wind.
