【正确答案】Technological advances now allow us to do things much faster than we could do them in the past. However, instead of giving us more spare time, these inventions have had the opposite effect. Because we can do things faster, we are under pressure to do more things in the same amount of time. The result is that everybody is in a hurry all the time, which causes a lot of stress and this is clearly bad for both mental and physical health. Though I do not think that life in general will slow down, I do believe that there are some things that individuals can do to reduce the amount of stress in their lives.
One general way to relieve stress and relax is to cut ourselves off from all distractions. When we have to concentrate on too many things at once, our attention is divided and we cannot slow down and focus on just one thing, which causes stress. So we should set some time-a day or even just an afternoon-aside each week to just do one thing. This could be reading a book, playing a game of golf or even spending an afternoon talking to friends or other family members.
In a related way, we can make our day-to-day life at work, at home or at school less stressful by minimising the number of distractions. There are no doubt going to be many things which demand our attention during the course of one day, but if we prioritise we will meet our deadlines more easily, thereby avoiding anxiety and stress. That is, if we make a plan to do the most urgent things first and do not let new problems distract us from that plan, we will be in less of a rush to finish on time.
In conclusion, it does seem likely that the fast pace of life is here to stay whether we like it or not. Now the issue has become-how to cope with it? I believe that the best way of dealing with it is to avoid distractions by organising our time better and making sure we take some time off to relax and enjoy just one activity at a time.
