The Internet and the Modern Society
Regarded as one of the most important inventions in the twentieth century, Internet nowadays has become very common in our daily life, in that we can surf on the Internet by computer or mobile phones whenever and wherever we want. However, as every coin has two sides, debates over the pros and cons of the network have never stopped. From my perspective, the advantages of the Internet outweigh its disadvantages.
Admittedly, if we spend too much time surfing on the Internet, there will be less time as well as energy for us to deal with activities in real life. Moreover, the spread of violent and pornographic videos or photos could pollute the cyber space.
Nevertheless, the Internet has, to some extent, greatly facilitated our work and improved the quality of our life. To begin with, Internet serves as an information-sharing platform, promoting not only the access but also the sharing of resources. As a researcher has pointed out, information explosion means that people live in the ocean of information, and Internet has been essential to make that come true. Besides, with the popularity of Internet and the application of advanced technology, people nowadays can establish and maintain contacts with their family or friends more conveniently. Distance or jet lag can no longer hinder our communication or interaction.
As what has mentioned before, the Internet brings us more benefits than drawbacks in the modern society. Just as an old saying goes, we cannot stop eating for the fear of being choked. Instead of worrying too much about the current problems we’ve encountered, what we need to is to find solutions to them.
