【正确答案】The healthcare systems in many countries cannot cope with the ever-increasing numbers and demands of patients despite the fact that many governments allocate huge amounts of resources to hospitals. As a result, many have said that patients with lung cancer from smoking should be turned away to make way for more genuine cases. Some have gone so far as to say that they should receive no public healthcare assistance whatsoever. I am convinced that we should start taking stricter measures on cases like this as it is high time people started taking responsibility for their actions.
People are becoming over-dependent on the government and expect far too much from them. Even though the government has already banned tobacco advertising, written obvious warning labels on cigarette packs and educated the vast majority of people on the dangers of smoking, this still does not seem to be enough for many smokers who continue to contract smoking related illnesses. It is very unreasonable then to expect non-smoking taxpayers to foot the medical bills of these ignorant people.
Another point is that cigarettes are becoming increasingly expensive to buy. In countries like Australia, one pack already costs almost $10. If people can afford to buy cigarettes, they should also set aside money to subscribe to private healthcare. They need to prepare for the fact that they may contract lung cancer and, once again, not rely on the government to take care of everything for them.
In conclusion, once people consider the consequences of their actions and modify their behaviour or plan their lives accordingly, there will be much less strain on public healthcare. Ultimately, we will live in a much healthier society in all regards.
