EXAMINER: Now I'm going to give you a topic and I'd like you to talk about it for one to two minutes. Before you begin, you have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You may make some notes if you wish. Do you understand?
CANDIDATE: Yes, I understand.
EXAMINER: OK. Here's a paper and pencil for making notes and here's your topic. Describe an enjoyable trip you have taken.
CANDIDATE: OK. So let me see. An enjoyable trip I've taken. I've taken quite a few enjoyable trips but the one that I always remember the most is my trip to Egypt which was about probably at least 10 years ago now back when I was in my early twenties. I went to Egypt. And what made it quite enjoyable was it was a very different country. You had the desert. You had the ocean. It was such a stark contrast between the desert and the ocean. It was actually very beautiful to look out on because the dust and the sand from the desert just sort of has a cloud over the ocean which makes it very dream like. But another thing that made it interesting was actually when I arrived there, my luggage was missing because back in the UK, there was an airport strike by the ground staff so none of the baggage made it to Egypt. So basically I went to the airline company. I think it was British Airways. And they said that my luggage was stuck in the UK. So they said that it will probably take a day or two before it gets here. So they were giving me 50 US dollars a day so I can buy some clothes and toiletries and stuff. But because I was quite young at the time, I actually thought 50 dollars would be much better in the pocket than actually going to buy extra clothes especially if it was only going to be a day or two. So I thought I would wear the same clothes until I get my baggage. However, the luggage didn't arrive until 2 weeks later. So it was two weeks before I actually had a change of clothes. But I did actually have a shower because Egypt, I went there in the summer time, it was really hot. It was like 40-50 degrees and so I would quickly take my clothes off. I'd have the cleaner there wash my clothes and within one hour it was dry. Then I'd get dressed and go out. I got to see many things. I got to see like the pyramids in Egypt. I went like on a camel ride through the desert for the whole day which nearly killed me. I went down to Abu Simbel and Aswan where I took, I think they were called a Felucca which is an Egyptian style sail boat up the river which was really cheap. It was only like 3 US dollars per day and that included 3 meals and the trip up the river to Luxor or almost to Luxor. And then in Luxor, there was the Valley of the Kings or something, some kind of place like that and that was also very interesting but it was really, really hot. I can just remember standing there and sometimes there was a tour guide explaining things and I just couldn't pay any attention. I was just, I was in a total daze because the heat was always almost killing me.
