Video Surveillance
Nowadays, video cameras are installed in almost all public places, including restaurants, supermarkets, railway stations, corridors of apartments, roads, shopping malls, etc. Video cameras have become a useful tool for surveillance in our life.
Video surveillance has its benefits. First of all, video surveillance cameras help the police to investigate traffic accidents and crimes. The police will find out the details of occurrences through video cameras, who is to blame for the accidents and the whereabouts of criminals. Secondly, video surveillance is effective in restricting people’s behavior. For example, with cameras taking pictures of vehicles on the roads, fewer drivers dare to violate traffic regulations for fear of punishment.
It has its disadvantages. Some argue that video surveillance cameras are disturbing and violating their privacy. In addition, some criminals install video cameras illegally to invade others’ privacy.
In my opinion, the police and individuals must ensure that cameras are installed in appropriate places where people’s privacy is not violated.
