I'm sure you've heard about this but the greatest thing about Beijing is the food. There are thousands of restaurants in Beijing. They have great food at a very low price. You can also find McDonald's and KFC if you want to get fast food.
As far as transportation, you can always take taxis. Again, the good news is, the buses can take you everywhere, and there is a huge supermarket just three blocks away.
