Electronic Dictionaries

It is widely accepted that electronic dictionaries have been prevailing among students for some time. However, opinions towards electronic dictionaries vary from person to person. Some argue that in comparison with a traditional dictionary, this new kind of dictionary is undoubtedly handy and convenient. Moreover, due to its practical multifunction, it is capable of offering considerable assistance to users. What worth mentioning is that an electronic dictionary can not only translate words from English to Chinese, but vice versa. Students can also get easy access to pure pronunciation through imitating the way of pronouncing in the electronic dictionary.

On the other hand, opponents argue that an electronic dictionary has very limited definitions in the entries. In addition, neither explanation nor collocation to illustrate the correct usage of a word is sufficient in an electronic dictionary. Worse still, constant use of this tool may make students addicted to it, which will in consequence lead them to form a passive and lazy attitude towards leaning.

As far as I am concerned, an electronic dictionary has made a difference to our life. Therefore, it is of great necessity for us to utilize it properly and avoid being overwhelmingly dependent on it.
