In the 1960s, the Civil Rights Movement started when black people spontaneously protested the segregation laws that kept them and white people apart in housing, schools, restaurants and many other public facilities. Such organizations as SNCC, CORE and SCLC were established to make the protests successful. As a result,segregation in the southern states was abolished.
