It is widely believed that parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older teenage children, for they have more life experience and always know what is best for children. Perhaps their decisions can serve as a shortcut to fame and fortune, but I don't think teenagers should listen to them in every way; indeed, as to things like choosing education, making friends and taking job, youngsters ought to rely on their own opinions.

However, deciding everything for children does not help them in the long run. On the one hand, children brought up under too much parental care are usually unsociable and inexperienced. They are like flowers planted in a greenhouse, which cannot stand up to the harsh weather conditions outside. On the other hand, learning to make their own decisions is absolutely necessary for the personal development of children.

Therefore, what the best parents can do is to give their children advice rather than make decisions for them. By doing so, children can learn about the world gradually through personal experience. So it is necessary for children to make their own decisions.
